Type 2 Diabetes on the Rise
Date: April 28th, 2015
As any other action of disease control the AMA (American Medical Association) and the leading U.S. health agency take, controlling the increased rates of type 2 diabetes is one of them. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the implemented finances of the U.S.cannot sustain the increased number of people with type 2 diabetes, since it costs more than 245 billion USD. Having approximately 26% of the total population having prediabetes, which of course precedes the dreadful disease and sadly only 10% of the 86million people, know they have it.
Type 2 Diabetes causes many complications, especially if the right care is missing. Therefore, you never know when the patient will go into a heart attack that would warrant for resuscitation. It is better to be ready by getting CPR and first aid certification online.
This dreadful disease is associated with, as the name goes, dreadful causalities; kidney disease, amputations and vision loss. It is mostly seen in obese or rather overweight people and sedentary. Hence its rising rates are moving hand in hand with the epidemic that is obesity. The disease control organizations mentioned above, have developed a program, Prevent Diabetes STAT (Screen, Test, Act Today), where they want all the doctors to take blood tests so as to check for prediabetes through screening and of course if present, direct them on these developed prevention programs. This referment of these patients, as the Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ann Bright said, is critical since once you know you have prediabetes, you will certainly take action.
Possible means to stop type 2 diabetes
The only way take action, to delay and/or prevent its succession by type 2 diabetes, when and if you may have prediabetes; is to make a change and maintain your lifestyle, where you should eat healthily, work out hence losing weight and involving yourself in physical activities. The presence of prediabetes is registered once your blood sugar levels are higher than normally expected, of course not as high as those of when registered with diabetes itself. Taking action is important since, as seen, 15 to 30% of the people with prediabetes develop type 2 diabetes within 5years. This can be prevented by taking action ASAP. Ann Bright suggested that this can be best achieved when you have a lifestyle coach and associating yourself with your peers, meaning those who have the same condition.
More than 500 programs available to fight type 2 diabetes
The President of the American Medical Association, Dr. Robert Wah, said that they have also agreed to work hand in hand with the YMCA to fight type 2 diabetes and heart disease. In addition, he mentioned that currently, more than 500 such programs exist and more of these are required. Great strides by this program has been seen, whereby they have prevented 70% from developing from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes, especially in elderly people aged 60years and above.
Getting the people tested for the chronic disease is basically the first step, this will help in giving the statistics on how many people currently have it and exactly how to work on getting them all to prevent it will come later and efficiently. You can never tell whether someone else has it or if you have it by just looking at them. Don’t postpone it for the world, get tested today.
