Date: September 18th, 2016
How can red Wine be Good for You?
The biggest reason that red wine is said to be good for you is the antioxidants found in it. These antioxidants are known as polyphenols. Polyphenols help to protect your cells so that they can resist diseases like cancer and heart disease.
Red wine gets its polyphenols from the colored skins of the grapes used to make the wine. That is why red wine is said to have so many health benefits, while white wine does not have the same benefits.
Some of the benefits that have been associated with red wine are:
Heart Health
Studies have been done that show that drinking a moderate amount of red wine each day will provide enough antioxidants to help prevent you from developing heart conditions. There have also been studies done on people who consumed a large amount of red wine daily and these individuals showed no reduction in heart health.
Cancer Protection
Many studies have shown that drinking moderate amounts of red wine will provide your body with resveratrol that can help to prevent cancers of the head and neck. Studies have concluded that the increased amount of polyphenols in red wines provide protection against cancers like colon cancer.
Memory Retention
Studies have been done that show resveratrol, a polyphenol found in red wine can help people to slow their memory loss as they age.
Stops Weight Gain
Another polyphenol in red wine called piceatannol was found by Korean researchers to have the ability to block the cellular procession that allows fat cells to reproduce and enlarge. The study concluded that red wine might be used to help people stop from gaining excess weight. This study was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 2012.
Stops Growth of Harmful Bacteria in the Mouth
In 2014 a study was published showing that red wine might have the ability to help people reduce the number of cavities they have, and fight other dental diseases.
Do not rush out to buy red wine
Although red wine has been shown to have health benefits in many studies done in the last twenty five years, there are also risks associated with consuming red wines.
Increased Breast Cancer Risk
In 2012, a study in the UK showed that red wine consumption could very well increase a woman’s risk for developing breast cancer.
Alcoholism
Alcoholism is something that can happen quickly when people start to drink on a regular basis. As people start to drink on a regular basis, they tend to be able to drink more alcohol before they feel the effects of the liquid. People think they are safe because they do not feel themselves getting drunk and they steadily increase the amount of alcohol they consume each day.
Red wine is said to be beneficial in amounts that are less than three glasses a day. Women are recommended to consume no more than one glass a day, and men are supposed to stop at two glasses per day.
